New England Patriots X-factors: Julian Edelman must rise up.

The New England Patriots getting it going on offense will start with the offensive line and the little engine who could.  The little engine named Julian Edelman.

More from New England Patriots

After a career game in receiving yards vs the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, Julian Edelman has been basically non-existent the last three weeks.  With a total of 5 catches, yes 5 catches in those three games, it is pretty apparent Edelman is either suffering from an injury or just losing his step.

At the age of 34, it could be a combination of both at play, but even with that he can play much better than he has been playing.

Cam Newton and the New England Patriots offense need a more productive Julian Edelman.  He must limit the dropped passes as he leads the league with 11 this season and keep his head in the game.

As one of the veteran leaders on offense, Edelman has to be the fuel to get things going on the field.  He is a force of energy when he is involved in the game and is making plays.  If the Patriots can get him involved early, a lot of that energy will rub off on the rest of that offensive unit.

Simply put, if Cam Newton is looking for some explosive plays in this game against the San Francisco 49ers, it will likely come at the hands of Julian Edelman who will be keyed in on making things happen for this offense.
