New England Patriots: 3 players who have massively underperformed in 2020
By Sam Minton
Stephon Gilmore
On the other side of the ball, Stephon Gilmore is without a doubt the biggest disappointment on defense. The former Defensive Player of the Year is having a horrible season (to put it lightly).
Gilmore was supposed to be the anchor of the defense. He was supposed to be the star that made big plays just when New England needed them. Without Brady, it seemed as though he was the best player on the roster.
But that is the opposite of what Gilmore has done this season. He has been one of the worst players on the defense. Instead of being someone that New England could rely on, Gilmore has become a liability.
Opposing quarterbacks are not afraid to throw Gilmore’s way and when they do, Gilmore isn’t stopping the ball. Long are the days of Gilmore putting the best wide receivers in the NFL on an island.
The fact that Gilmore is performing so poorly after being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 is astonishing. Like the final player we will talk about, they have suddenly fallen off the face of the Earth.
So Gilmore has underperformed greatly in 2020 and because of that, his days as a Patriot could be coming to an end.
