New England Patriots: 3 wide receivers team should target in free agency – No.2: Chris Godwin
There are multiple reasons why the Patriots should be interested in Chris Godwin. Besides his talent, the team could get revenge on a certain former player.
Godwin’s talent doesn’t need to be explained. He is a burner that can make any cornerback look silly. It’s no wonder that TB12 loves him.
In 2019, Godwin burst onto the scene. He had over 1,3000 receiving yards along with nine touchdowns.
So the Patriots would be getting a great receiver but there is the Brady factor. Everyone knows that Bill Belichick would love to get one over on Brady by poaching one of his players.
It appears that Godwin will command an annual salary around $17 million. Once again that is quite expensive, but the Patriots could use 2020 to their advantage.
Godwin isn’t exactly having the best season with a decrease in his overall output. New England could use that performance as a way to get him to come down on his price. Also, Godwin would get the opportunity to be a No.1 receiver and get plenty of targets.
If the Patriots could land Godwin it would be a game changing acquisition.
