Boston Celtics Fandom: The 3 biggest New Year wishes for 2021
Danny Ainge, please do something big with that trade exception
The one thing we know about Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is that he won’t make a trade for the sake of making a trade.
That attribute about Ainge has made him one of the top executives in the league, but it is also a trait that annoys most Celtics fans.

While other teams in the East have gotten much stronger in the offseason, the Celtics will be challenged to make a move or two if they want to challenge or even contend for an NBA championship.
As good as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been, it’s obvious they need more depth in order to compete with a team like the Brooklyn Nets led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The return of Kemba Walker and maturation of Robert Williams will help, but there is another move out there that could put the Boston Celtics over the top.
That big move is for Danny Ainge to find.
With a $28 million trade exception created from the Gordon Hayward sign-and-trade with the Charlotte Hornets, Ainge has a major chip in his pocket.
The question is, will he actually use it or allow it to expire.
The wish is that he uses it in 2021 and bring in another star or use it in smaller moves to create the depth the team needs.
Whichever way he uses it, it will make this last wish come true.
Some good candidates out there are LaMarcus Aldridge, Aaron Gordon and Buddy Hield.
Of course, there is also that blockbuster trade involving one James Harden out there. But, Danny Ainge will really have to be smart about that one.
