The leadership of Lawrence Guy an important element of the New EnglandPatriots D-line.

Part of the New England Patriots re-tooling efforts and upgrading some key positions on the team is retaining some veteran experience and leadership.  Defensive lineman Lawrence Guy is the right guy for that.

Along with Butler, as mentioned in a previous slide, Guy was one of the team’s bright spots this season.  Not only did he provide a presence in the middle of the defensive line, but his leadership in the locker room also makes him a valuable player to bring back.

More from New England Patriots

During the 2020 NFL season he combined for 57 tackles and 2.0 sacks, displaying a versatility along the defensive line.  He was also one of the more reliable defenders against the run, an area the front seven struggled with all season long.

At just 30 years of age, Guy has a lot of football left and it would be great to see him continue playing in a New England Patriots uniform.  It really comes down to how much Belichick values him and the cost.

In addressing his pending free agency, Guy said he would love to return.

"“I’d love to return to New England,” Guy said at the beginning of January, via MassLive.com. “I laid the roots already here, so if I’m able to do that that would be amazing. New England has been very blessing to me, they’re very special to me, the community has helped me out a lot and I’ve helped out the community. It’s a good group of people here overall with the players, coaches and the staff, and it’s something you get to cherish.”"

What stood out most about Guy this season is how much he believed in his teammates and warned never to count the team out.  Sounds like he has really adapted to the Patriot Way.  He also sounds like a real Belichick guy.  Losing him would be a big blow moving forward into the 2021 season.
