Finally, we get to the positional players of the team as the Red Sox try and find an answer to the long-time second baseman, Dustin Pedroia. When they moved on from Brock Holt last offseason in favor of Jose Peraza, fans seemingly lost it and it didn’t work out for anyone involved. It also doesn’t help that Michael Chavis showed little signs of improvement and has pretty much fallen out of line for the position moving forward. Enter Kolten Wong.

Wong is a back-to-back Gold Glove second baseman in the National League and would be an instant value if he was to be brought in to be the everyday second baseman for the Red Sox. He is a career .261 hitter with a fine OPS of .717. It looked like he was turning a corner in 2019, his best season, as he swung .285 and mashed 11 home runs while also stealing 24 bases.

Wong brings a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the ball while being able to be no slouch at the plate and a dazzling fielder as well. He isn’t a major name like the recently signed DJ LeMahieu, but he is a name that can be one of the better signings of the offseason.

He would give the Boston Red Sox a hitter who can be at the top or bottom and wouldn’t be an automatic out much like second base pretty much was during the 2020 season.

They have kept their tabs on the former St. Louis Cardinal and could very well have him be their second baseman for the next couple of seasons, or at least until they believe Jeter Downs is ready to give it a shot.
