New England Patriots: James White signing is mind-blowing
By Sam Minton
On Wednesday, it was announced that the New England Patriots and James White had come to an agreement on a one-year deal. With the moves the Pats made this one might go under the rug, but it shouldn’t. New England got an amazing deal.
White was one of the Patriots best players on offense in 2020. He was someone that Cam Newton could consistently rely on in the passing game. He racked up 49 catches for 375 yards and a touchdown along with 35 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
2020 was a disappointing year for a multitude of reasons. The offense was an absolute disaster, but White was one of the lone bright spots.
But this offseason it seemed as though the Patriots might end up losing White. Some even pondered if he would join Tom Brady down in Tampa Bay.
Why James White’s one-year deal with the New England Patriots is mind-blowing.
But that isn’t the case with White signing a new deal. The thing that stands out is how much it will cost the Patriots.
I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that number. That is an absolute steal. New England likely leveraged the fact that they went out and got some talent. Also, New England offering a fully guaranteed contract probably won over White.
In 2021, White will continue to be a key part of the offense. He likely won’t have to line up out wide as much as he did in 2020, but he should still catch plenty of passes. Also with New England acquiring some wide receivers, White can focus on doing some damage on the ground.
White is also a leader in the locker room. he is now a veteran of the Patriot Way. Having him back should hopefully lead New England and their offense to a much better season.
Overall this deal is just amazing for the Patriots. They get a key player back and he won’t cost anything. White should continue to be a crucial part of the offense and should have a better season than he did in 2020.
So far this offseason has been quite the ride for Patriots fans. New England has gone out and spent a lot of money to try and improve the roster while also retaining talent. One of their better moves is bringing back White. With how little he costs, the deal is sure to be a success for New England.
