Boston Celtics week ahead

The upcoming schedule for Boston is light on games but heavy on implications. The team plays only three games in the next week but all can provide good measuring sticks as to how far this team has come.

First up, the Chicago Bulls come to town on Monday (4/19). Chicago is currently hanging around the playoff picture in 10th place. The game marks the return to town for former Celtic Daniel Theis.

More from Boston Celtics

Boston defeated Chicago by 16 earlier this season.

On 4/22, the Celtics welcome the Phoenix Suns to town. The Suns are battling the Utah Jazz for the top-seed in the Western Conference at the moment. Phoenix, while expected to be improved this season, has been quite the surprise and defeated the Celtics by nine back in February.

Both Brown and Marcus Smart missed the first matchup between the two teams.

Closing out the week is a Friday night game with the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn has defeated Boston twice this season, by 28 and 12.

This week, especially against Phoenix and Brooklyn, gives Boston the chance to show the world who they really are. Are the team who battled mediocrity in the first three months of 2021? Or are they team who has stepped it up a notch in winning their last six?

My money is on the latter, as long as the team is at full strength. And if not, as long as Tatum is playing like he is and stepping up the leadership, Boston’s chances are in good hands.
