3 New York Islanders for Boston Bruins fans to watch in Round 2 – No.2: Ilya Sorokin

Goaltenders can win series for a team. With how well Ilya Sorokin is playing the Islanders are definitely a team to watch.

This is the first season of Sorokin’s career but he is doing quite well. In the regular season, he went 13-6-3 with a .918 save percentage and a 2.17 goals against average.

More from Boston Bruins

Sorokin has primarily been a backup for New York with Semyon Varlamov having a quality regular season. Unfortunately for the Islanders Varlamov is now struggling which means they need to rely on the young Sorokin.

So far in his first four playoff starts, Sorokin is 4-0 with a .943 goals against average and a 1.95 goals against average. Those are some great numbers for any goalkeeper never mind a rookie.

A hot young goaltender can win you a Stanley Cup. Just look at the Blues and Jordan Binnington.

Boston will need to score early and often. If they can rattle the young goalie they will advance in the playoffs.
