As the Red Sox have proved this season, going from last to first place can happen from season to season, but the Orioles just appear to be a team far away. The question is whether Mancini, who recently battled Stage 3 Colon Cancer, is willing to sacrifice his prime years with a team going nowhere?
He’s certainly saying the right things in hopes that things do progress in Baltimore.
"“I feel like we’ve got a lot of guys coming up who have a good idea what they’re doing,” Mancini said back in June, via the Baltimore Sun. “Up here, we can, I think, start doing a little bit better job of obviously putting wins on the board, but we’re in a lot of close games. We’ve got t find ways to start winning them now, and the more we start playing together and the more some of these other guys come up, I think that’ll start happening.”"
Well, the team is still searching for ways to win games and the Orioles has to start thinking about the future of Mancini and what they can get for him at the MLB Trade Deadline.
This is where Chaim Bloom will have to give up a top prospect or two to acquire Comeback Player of the year contender. Bobby Dalbec, Jeter Downs, Tanner Houck, Tristan Casas, Jarren Duran?
Batting .263 with 17 homers and 58 RBI, Mancini could divide time at first base and the outfield for the Red Sox which would provide more lineup options for Alex Cora. The question is, would the Orioles trade Mancini within the division?
If it brings back one of the Red Sox top prospects or even two, that shouldn’t be a roadblock at all.
