When it comes to the Boston Red Sox future, the here and now is electrifying young outfielder Jarren Duran.

That electrifying element to his game was on full display during the second game of the double header between the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

After losing the first game 4-1, the Fenway faithful needed a spark in Game 2 and they got it as the team’s No. 3 ranked prospect smacked a ball towards the gap in right-center and put his speed on full display.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran touches them all

With a runner on first, Duran motored around the bases to touch them all as he took full advantage of George Springer bobbling the ball while fielding it.  With his blazing speed, clocked by Statcast as 29.3 feet per second, once he touched third, there was no doubt he was no hesitation in sending him home.

"“As soon as I got to third, [third-base coach Carlos Febles] started waving me and I was like, ‘I’m absolutely gassed,’ and I was just hoping I could make it to home without falling,” Duran said following the game, via MLB.com."

Well, he didn’t fall.  In fact, he was able to slide just under the glove of Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire who dropped the ball anyway while attempting to apply the tag on Duran.

It didn’t go down as an inside-the-park home run as an error was given to Springer, but it pumped up Duran, pumped up the team and really electrified the Fenway crowd, who got to see firsthand just how this kid can change a game at one swing of the bat.

More from Boston Red Sox

"“I told [hitting coach] Timmy [Hyers] and [outfielder] Alex [Verdugo], ‘Just look at him,’ because that’s how fast he is,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.  “He’s a game changer.  His speed changes the game and that’s what we’re looking for.  It’s a weapon and it was fun to watch him run the bases.”"

It was certainly the highlight of the team’s 4-1 win and shows just how special Duran is and can be as he grows into his game.

Boston Red Sox have the next big thing in Jarren Duran

With Duran playing his way to the Majors at the pace he did, it’s hard not to think of prior Red Sox top prospects who came up during the season and helped the team win.

Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, Rafael Devers and even Andrew Benintendi all came up and made contributions right away.  Duran is doing that while putting the future on display now.

As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, he is showing Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom what they already have.  In that respect, it was a necessary call-up and one that makes an already entertaining ball club just that more exciting.

The play itself certainly pumped-up Duran who was struggling a bit prior to the at-bat.  Credited with a triple, just the excitement of the play as well as the unforgettable moment could be something that triggers the young prospect on a hot streak.

"“I was pumped.  I felt like I helped the team do something and it’s always a good moment to contribute to this amazing offense, so I was pumped.  Maybe a little too excited, but it happens,” Durran said."

It sure sounds like the Boston Red Sox have themselves a keeper and certainly a winner.
