If All-Pro receiver Michael Thomas does not want to be a Saint who comes marching into the 2021 NFL season, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots will certainly want to be in that number.

Perhaps that was a bit corny, but what’s not corny is the Patriots monitoring the current situation going on between Thomas and the New Orleans Saints.

This isn’t the first-time rumblings down in Louisiana had us dreaming about Thomas in a Patriots’ uniform, but when a player’s reputation is on the line, well, it would appear a divorce is imminent, especially when that player takes to social media.

New England Patriots should keep an eye on this Michael Thomas, Saints feud

In the latest chapter of Thomas vs the Saints, the big-time receiver took to Twitter with the following tweet after a report that he failed to communicate with the coaches and trainers for three months this offseason.  That communication or lack thereof surrounded the surgical repair of ligaments in his ankle.

Thomas did have surgery in June, but should’ve he have had the procedure sooner?

Well, that lack of communication with the team may have prolonged his return to the team as he is expected to miss the start of the 2021 NFL season.  This comes after he missed eight games in 2020 due to the injury.

As Saints head coach Sean Payton refused to address the situation or Thomas’s tweet, will the latest drama at Payton’s place yield the talented wide receiver out of town and perhaps into the hands of Belichick and the Patriots?

New England Patriots could certainly use Michael Thomas

What really is the use for potentially trading for an injured player who won’t be available to perhaps early November?

Well, plenty if Thomas is healthy and ready to go by then.  Even at 80 percent, he is better than what they currently have at the wide receiver position and his current contract has him locked up for a while.  Belichick would love to give Mac Jones a weapon like Thomas when he finally takes over under center for the Patriots.

Who knows, perhaps Jones would already get the call by the time Thomas is ready to return to the Saints.

Of course, any idea of trading Thomas for Payton will depend on where the team is at that point and whether the receiver group is holding it down with Thomas on the sideline.

Then again, none of that will matter if the currently disgruntled wide receiver feels his reputation has taken a hit.

So, the question then becomes if the Patriots want any part of a receiver who punched a teammate and failed to communicate with his team surrounding a serious injury and surgical repair?

Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Aqib Talib are just a few NFL stars Bill Belichick hasn’t shied away from, so if Michael Thomas is available, even at 80 percent with a diva attitude, the New England Patriots have the cap space and need to take a shot at one of the best wide receivers in the game when healthy.
