New England Patriots: 5 observations from soaring victory over NY Jets
New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson is the real deal
Man, the Patriots better pay J.C. Jackson his money.
You hear that, Bill Belichick?
While Zach Wilson made some poor decisions on Sunday, the Patriots secondary did capitalize, and Jackson led the way with two interceptions.
That first interception was all Jackson as he broke up a pass to Corey Davis and then hauled in the interception on a nice assist from Devin McCourty. The second interception was just a nice place on an under-thrown pass by Wilson.
With Stephon Gilmore out, the Patriots fourth-year cornerback is showing early that he is capable of being a No. 1 corner in the league.
"“You make plays, and your teammates feed off of you, that’s what defense is all about,” Jackson said following the game. “Don’t wait on nobody to make plays, just go out there, set the tone and hopefully your teammates feed off that.”"
While there is a string of challenges ahead of Jackson and the New England Patriots secondary, you have to love the confidence and attitude of Jackson. He is not only near the top of the league in interceptions over the past three seasons, but he also demonstrates on a weekly basis that he has the mental physicality to be a shutdown corner.
So again, you better pay this man Bill Belichick.
