The Boston Celtics season is just two days away now, with their season opening tilt set for Wednesday night against the New York Knicks. Anytime the Celtics and Knicks square off, it usually results in some fascinating storylines, and good basketball. Only adding to the intrigue is the fact that the Knicks are going to be led by a pair of Celtics castoffs in Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier.

For the Celtics and their fans, the start of the season cannot come quick enough. After the misery that was the 2020-21 season, fans and players alike are ready to wash the bad taste from that lost season out of their mouths as soon as they can. Expectations for this Boston team are varying, but they are universally expected to improve upon their 36-36 record from last season.

While the stars of this team, such as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, will rightfully command most of the attention on this team, the C’s have an interesting new roster heading into this season. They brought in a few new savvy veterans who can help compliment Boston’s two stars, and continue to field some interesting prospects in their ranks.

While it would be nice to see the veterans deliver in a way that the ones last season didn’t (Jeff Teague, anyone?), this season ultimately could come down to whether or not Boston’s younger players take the next step forward. Here are three players that could be able to take that next step forward, and put together a breakout campaign.
