New England Patriots: 4 postgame takes on big Week 10 win vs Browns
New England Patriots offense rolls
The pass defense was lacking early in the first half as Baker Mayfield carved up the Pats’ secondary. No pass rush equaled no sweat for the Browns.
Barmore came to life in the second quarter with a nice wrap-up tackle on Johnson after a miss by Jawaun Bentley and began to make an impact on the game.
A near-miss interception by J.C. Jackson on a third and four got the ball back for the Patriots with 12 minutes left in the half.
Yet, a botched punt return by Jakobi Meyers put the Patriots in a hole. (Meyers later made up for that gaffe by catching his first Patriots’ touchdown pass.)
They started from their own half-yard line. Great. But once again with a five-yard run on first down, Stevenson got them moving.
On three straight runs, he notched about 30 yards for the home team. Unfortunately, he went off in the second quarter and the running game stuttered.
Chipping Garrett who was rushing from the right against Wynn most of the time was a necessity., The Patriots chipped him with a back trying to keep him at bay.
With time to pass, Jones was back to his Rookie-of-the-Year possible self, and he ripped the Browns defense to shreds with his pinpoint passing.
Jones threw a 28-yard dart to Kendrick Bourne for a touchdown putting the Patriots ahead 21-7. He then had nine of his 10 passes for two touchdowns and 117 yards after that strike. Wow.
Jones was laser-sharp getting back to his pre-Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers form as finishing 13 of 15 for the half. That’s vintage Mac Jones.
