Why the New England Patriots should target wide receiver Byron Pringle

The New England Patriots will be on the market for a No. 1 wide receiver either through free agency, the draft or trade, but don’t be surprised if they shop for another wide receiver who fit the mode of a Kendrick Bourne.

With 42 receptions for 568 yards and 5 touchdowns, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle could be the type of receiver the Patriots target.  That is not something fans necessarily want to hear, but Pringle became the Chiefs’ secret weapon in 2022.

In an offense that featured the likes of Travis Kelce and the explosiveness of Tyreek Hill, Pringle became a third option for Mahomes and a player the Chiefs would obviously like to have back.

Not only did Pringle step up when the offense was sputtering in the middle part of the season, he became a big play option for Mahomes which will catch the eye of teams in free agency, including the Patriots who will be exploring more options to surround Mac Jones.

Depending on what the team does in other areas of need, as well as what happens with restricted wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and the status of Nelson Agholor, the Patriots just might pluck a couple of receivers on day 2 or day 3 off free agency in hopes they do find another player like Bourne who flourishes in New England.

Though Pringle is 28, he may just be hitting his peak and the Patriots could be a team that cashes in.  The bonus would of course be taking a weapon away from one of their rivals in the AFC.  The bigger hope if you are a New England Patriots fan would be for Bourne and Pringle to be the second and third option behind a true No. 1 receiver with Meyers playing the slot.
