New England Patriots: Jonnu Smith is due for a bounce back season
Jonnu Smith will have another year with the New England Patriots & Mac Jones
Make no mistake about it, the quarterback here is just as important as his weapons. Smith had to deal with a lot of firsts last year. First year on a new team. Of course, first year with a new quarterback. Now, it’s about taking the firsts out of the equation and continuing the development of Jones and Smith’s relationship on the field.
Smith is a guy that can really help Jones improve. His athleticism and running ability for a tight end is extremely impressive, and sometimes he resembles a bigger wide receiver more than a tight end.
Now granted, the Patriots have a lot of other weapons on offense. When you have Jakobi Meyers, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholor, and Hunter Henry, there are a lot of targets for Jones to utilize at any given time.
Don’t forget this too, Patriots fans. New England has a stellar backfield with Damien Harris and second year running back Rhamondre Stevenson. So it may tough for Smith, or anyone for that matter, to get a lot of targets with all of those weapons. But Smith can work well with Jones and give the Patriots another layer to an offense that has a ton of potential heading into the 2022 season.
