The Boston Celtics fell to the Milwaukee Bucks yesterday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Everything was a struggle yesterday for the Celtics offensively. From getting in the paint, to knocking down outside shots, it was just horrifying to watch as a fan.

One player that had a particularly bad afternoon was guard Payton Pritchard. Pritchard is known for his instant scoring and ability to create his own shot. In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday, Pritchard shot just 2 for 8 from the field. 2 for 8!

Now granted, that type of performance probably won’t happen again from Pritchard. But as Celtics fans, we can’t help but worry about everyone’s production. From Jayson Tatum, to Jaylen Brown, and everyone else in between, Pritchard isn’t an exception to this thought process. So it’s quite simple; the Boston Celtics need more out of Pritchard moving forward.

Payton Pritchard provides the Boston Celtics with instant offense off the bench

The Celtics are going to need the bench to produce at a high level in order to beat the Bucks in this series, and Pritchard is a big part of the team’s bench production.

We saw what Pritchard could do in the series Celtics first round series against the Brooklyn Nets. Pritchard has grown into a solid bench option in his second year in the NBA. So with this in mind, the Celtics need Pritchard to continue to shoot the ball well. The Celtics do a great job in doing everything together.

But with Pritchard, he is an offensive specialist. Granted, he can play defense. But he was brought to Boston because he is a good shooter.

The Boston Celtics are known to have some scoring lulls from time to time. This is exactly why Pritchard is a great piece for the Celtics to have in this playoff series. We know the Celtics identity is defense. But when you have shooting nights like the Celtics did in Game 1, it isn’t going to go particularly well for you.

The bottom line is that this Celtics team needs Pritchard to be good for the rest of the series. Yes, they will get production from other bench guys like Daniel Theis, Grant Williams, and Derrick White. But if the Celtics want to really win this series in convincing fashion, they need Payton Pritchard to really contribute consistently.
