New England Patriots rumors: All the reason to trade Kendrick Bourne
By John Hynes
In year’s past, the narrative has consistently been that the New England Patriots have had a lack of playmaking ability at the wide receiver position.
However, after recent free agency signings and draft picks the Patriots find themselves with a solid group of talent at wideout.
New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has drawn trade interest in recent weeks, Patriots should look into potential move
In the 2021-22 season, the Patriots signed Kendrick Bourne after four seasons in San Fransisco. For New England, he had a productive year with 55 receptions to go along with 800 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Entering the new season, Bourne finds himself in a depth chart with multiple adequate receivers, all on a similar tier.
Newcomer Devante Parker along with Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor all have the capabilities to be above-average contributors to any team, while none of them are much of a WR1 threat.
Bourne falls into the same category, and second-round pick Tyquan Thornton has turned heads this preseason, despite now being sidelined 6-8 weeks with a collarbone injury.
If the Patriots need another receiver, it would have to be a top-tier talent that can flip the game. While the receiving corps is solid, there is no true number one.
Kendrick Bourne, while he proved to be impactful last year, might just be the odd man out as other teams have been inquiring New England about him.
Given the current roster construction, it would be a good idea to entertain these offers. There might not be a huge role for Bourne once Thornton returns, and Patriots legend Julian Edelman even hinted at a return via the Green Light podcast.

Aside from the fact that the Patriots don’t really need Bourne and he could garner some good value in return, a move would also open the door for New England to add the potential star-receiver fans have been waiting for.
Odell Beckham Jr. still remains a free agent, and although he is still recovering from an ACL tear suffered in last years Super Bowl, Beckham could still have great impact this season. If the Patriots moved Bourne, it would make way for an addition like this of a player with WR1 potential.
Even if head coach Bill Belichick decided not to make anymore wide receiver moves beyond Bourne, New England has a cast of wideouts that would be equally as sufficient without him.
Although recent reports suggest Belichick has shot down these inquiries, he might want to reconsider.
