Sometimes all it takes is patience and learning from failure for a high-level prospect to breakthrough.  On Saturday, Boston Red Sox top pitching prospect Brayan Bello had his breakthrough moment at the Major League level to continue that September buzz.

In capturing his first victory in the big leagues, Bello simply dominated the Texas Rangers as the Red Sox continued their undefeated streak in the month of September.

In the 5-3 victory, Bello came with his best stuff pitching six innings of scoreless baseball.

Striking out five and walking just one, the young Red Sox starter delivered a performance that couldn’t come at a better time for a pitcher who continues to learn from all the ups and downs he has experienced while up with the big club.

"“I feel very happy, and that shows all the hard work that I’ve done in between starts since I first came in here to the big-league team, and I’m really happy with the result,” Bello said following the game, via MLB.com."

Boston Red Sox showed patience with Brayan Bello and now its paying off

Major kudos to the Red Sox for sticking with the kid, especially after a major league debut that was less than memorable.  But since then, Bello has shown glimpses of the pitcher he can be.  When his stuff is working and he is in command of the mound, he looks like a future ace as he did against a high-powered Toronto Blue Jays team just over a week ago when he allowed just two runs while striking out seven.

While part of the Red Sox sticking with Bello has been due to injury and the fact the team has fallen out of playoff contention (for the moment), the patience and allowing him to battle through his struggles is starting to pay off for the 23-year-old Bello who has his teammates happy about Saturday’s outstanding effort.

"“He’s been throwing really well for a while,” Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts said of Bello.  “It’s just that he started off his career by giving up infield knocks, and a couple of bloopers here and there with guys on base.  He got off to a lot of bad luck, I would say.  He’s been pitching dominant for a while now.”"

Through that bad luck, the Red Sox rookie has shown poise in working hard and coming to the mound with that tough mentality young pitchers need when challenged on the major league level.  His commitment to improving each time he is on the mound and his fearlessness to battle opposing hitters is what will make him a better pitcher going forward.

It also helped that he had a little offense behind him.  Again, fueled by the bat of Rafael Devers, the Boston Red Sox offense gave Brayan Bello a little cushion to work with, which made his execution on the mound that much easier.

"“I believe as far as executing the game plan, that was his best.” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.  “He was able to use his front-door sinker to lefties, and just from the guy that threw sinkers and changeups the first outing against Tampa Bay to this guy, you see it, and we’re very proud of him.”"

A day after Connor Wong slugged his first major league homer, Boston Red fans got to see Bello hurl his first major league victory.  With Triston Casas finally called up to the big club, perhaps the future of this team is starting to shine bright.  If the team this team is not careful, they might just play themselves back into contention.
