Heated and intense, a physical game between the Boston College Eagles and Maine Black Bears wasn’t truly decided until the final minutes.

The final score may read 38-17 — and the margin could have even been more — but Boston College (1-2) needed almost the full 60 minutes to secure their first victory in 2022.

It was a mixed bag of results in the victory. The Boston College passing attack had their best game of the season. The running game struggled but showed signs of life and had a fourth-quarter burst. A sound defense was solid but allowed too many big plays. And the special teams missed two field goals, gave up long returns, struggled to punt, and was something else altogther.

A hard-fought victory was the end result, with plenty of standouts for the Eagles.

Boston College Eagles: Fabulous Phil

During his tenure, as Phil Jurkovec goes, so go the Boston College Eagles.

Proof of that again happened Saturday night, as Jurkovec turned in his best game of the season with his 7th-career 300-yard passing game.

Jurkovec looked comfortable most of the night. A shaky start with being sacked twice early did little to fluster the veteran quarterback. He finished 25-37 for 320 yards and two touchdowns.

A couple of missed passes in tight windows were about the only blemishes on the night. He spread the ball around to seven different receivers. Jurkovec was able to go through his progressions much better, settling for the check-down option as needed instead of forcing the ball downfield.

Jurkovec was helped, too, by receivers that took short passes for big gains, including Boston College’s big playmaker.
