If you’d like to see a great article about the New England Patriots … bring super free agent signing and all-around Galactico Matt Judon into the conversation. The man’s just an incredible asset to the Patriots in any number of areas.

Now, at the risk of patting oneself on the back and dislocating a shoulder, again, let’s just say that this space has appreciated the player/person from the get-go. How can you not?

If it isn’t the fact that the man is the best sack artist in these parts since the legendary Andre Tippett (Pats’ and more importantly, Pro Football Hall member), He’s just a beacon for the team.

Never met the man (would like to!), but how can this great guy be anything but, well, a great guy? Let’s take a look at Matty J. and see just why he’s so special.

New England Patriots struck gold with Matt Judon in free agency in 2021

This space has to make a very bold confession, it is not a football fan, but, only a Patriots fan. It’s an odd anomaly but true. If it doesn’t concern the beloved New England Patriots (and previously the Boston Patriots), it doesn’t matter here.

Love the Patriots and could care less about any other team or game unless and until it impacts MY team. As they say, it is what it is, Homerism. Watch the NEP-less Super Bowl? Nope, Bah Humbug!

Back to the topic, this wonderful person, Matt Judon, wow, if you’d ever want to create a player to represent your team anywhere, it would have to be Matt. He has to be a Captain in 2023. Done.

Not only is he a terrific football player, but, how can you not just, well, like the man? He’s an amazing person. Judon has been the best player on the New England Patriots defense, and probably the entire team since he arrived in 2021. His two seasons in New England have been terrific.

And again, as a totally New England Patriots-focused person, have to confess, didn’t know anything about the player when they signed him. On Matt, the Patriots personnel operation (much maligned in this space, for certain ), hit the proverbial Grand Slam Home Run.

From the get-go, he’s been a top player, a top leader, and a top person. Whoever identified this player as a future Patriot (maybe Dave Ziegler?) deserves a round of applause. It was a Masterclass.

Judon has been a good player almost since he entered the NFL from Grand Valley State in 2016. With the Baltimore Ravens, he was a consistently good player, topping out with nine and a half sacks in 2019.

But with New England, he’s taken his game to a whole other (not Nother!) level. In two seasons, he’s notched 12.5 sacks (a season in which he contracted Covid) and 15.5 sacks. Who knows what he’ll do next season?

Matt Judon, New England Patriots Ambassador

It was recently seen in the news, that Derrick Henry, Pro Bowl running back from Tennessee asked Judon what he thought about playing New England.

Here’s the brief conversation, according to NESN,

"Henry: “How do you like it in New England, man?”Judon: “I love it, actually.”Henry: “Do you?”Judon then nodded his head before the clip cut to another mic’d-up moment…Henry is entering the final season of his contract with the Titans, so a trade involving the three-time Pro Bowler can’t be ruled out."

Interestingly, Judon dispelled the rumor that playing in New England, contrary to a certain offensive lineman’s viewpoint, was a drag. Could Henry be interested in a trip up north, who knows? It’s a nice idea, though.

Finally, the hope here is that Judon, who played with Lamar Jackson, a player the Patriots should have drafted in 2018 and punted twice on in favor of Isaiah Wynn and Sony Michel, will help bring Jackson to Foxborough.

It’s a pipe dream, of course since the Patriots wouldn’t have a clue on how to coach the precocious only 26-year-old Jackson. But, we can dream, can’t we?

Yes, we can dream. And yet, truly, is there anything Matt Judon can’t do if he sets his mind to it? Says here, probably not. Probably not, indeed.

Hope he dials up Lamar and tells him to come to New England. Who knows, you never know, until you try.
