Celtics star Jayson Tatum does Kobe proud, wins 2023 NBA All-Star MVP
The Boston Celtics are off until Thursday when they take on the Indiana Pacers. Since there’s a long break to watch the boys in green, people’s attention was naturally on the 2023 NBA All-star game.
We all know that the events are interesting to watch. The three point contest, the dunk contest, the skills competition, and much more take over until the actual game on Sunday night.
As the teams were picked, Giannis Antetokounmpo selected Jayson Tatum as his first starting teammate. That ended up being a pretty good choice as the former Duke forward went on to score 55 points and be awarded the 2023 All-star game MVP.
Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum becoming a face of the NBA
Everyone at the All-star game can see the type of player Tatum is becoming before their very eyes.
He’s becoming a face of the NBA, pretty simple. Yes, it helps that he has Jaylen Brown to play with on a day to day basis. But make no mistake about it, Tatum is at a level where Celtics fans should be excited!
Last night in the All-star game, the 6’10 Tatum shot 22 of 31 overall from the field. That included 10 for 18 from three point land.
Now I get the angle that there’s no defense in the All-star game. These guys don’t want to hurt each other in a pretty meaningless game.
But to shoot nearly 71 percent from the field and 55 percent from three point land? I don’t care what level you’re at or game you’re playing: those are legitimate face of the league numbers.
LeBron James is on his way out of the NBA sooner rather than later. Giannis is fighting with Tatum for Eastern Conference supremacy. These set up the perfect opportunity for the Celtics star to be a premium face in the NBA. A guy that can be a role model for kids and a marketing team’s dream.
Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum now chasing a championship
Now that the All-star game MVP box is checked, Jayson Tatum has another box to check off: winning an NBA title.

It’s cool that Tatum won the MVP award named after his late idol: Kobe Bryant. But again, it’s just another thing to check off in what we all hope will be a long and successful Celtics career.
The next part is winning the NBA title. This Celtics team has the best record in the East, but they’re still scrapping with Milwaukee for the number one seed. Focus should now be set on Indiana on Thursday and finishing the season ready to go get the NBA title.
The bottom line with Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics
With Joe Mazzulla officially leading the charge now, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics have bigger goals on their mind than an All-star game MVP award.
The award itself is a cool moment for what Jayson Tatum did last night. But that’s now all in the rearview mirror.
There will be plenty more All-star games in the future for Jayson Tatum. But there may not be as good a time as this season for Tatum and the Celtics to bring home banner 18.
