Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran needs a breakout season in 2023
If you are a pessimistic Boston Red Sox fan, then this article is not for you. Reason being, this is going to highlight someone who needs to have a true breakout season in 2023: outfielder Jarren Duran.
Duran has had an interesting career so far with the Red Sox organization. He was one of the most highly touted prospects in the organization. But his first two Major League seasons have been lackluster at best.
In two MLB seasons with a combined 91 games under his belt, Duran has hit .218 with five homeruns, 27 RBI’s, and a .622 OPS. Not eye-popping numbers to say the least!
So this 2023 season is extremely important for the Red Sox outfielder to break out.

One of the questions that lingers with the Red Sox in Spring Training is their production in the outfield.
Alex Verdugo is somebody that fans are hoping takes a big jump this season. Adam Duvall is one a one year deal and Masataka Yoshida is unproven at the MLB level. Besides Rob Refsnyder, this is a big opportunity for Jarren Duran to provide outfield depth for this team.

We know that the 6’2 Duran has the speed to be able to play center field everyday. But can he play good enough defense and hit better than he has in his first two MLB stints? That’s the key.
We’ve seen Duran at his worst when he lost the ball in the lights against the Toronto Blue Jays. But we’ve also seen him at his best when he’s relaxed and having fun. Get that Duran back on a permanent basis!

Every season, teams look for the unexpected story that contributes mightily to a team. Last season for the Red Sox, that was John Schreiber out of the bullpen. This season, could it be Darren Duran?
We know that the 26 year old outfielder has the tools to be an everyday contributing big leaguer. Now it’s about putting it all together.
It seems like in 2022, it was a hard Red Sox clubhouse to fit in with the veterans. Maybe this season, with some new veterans in the organization; Duran can be himself and produce to the level we were all hoping for the first two times he played in the big leagues.
If everything breaks right for this Red Sox team, maybe Jarren Duran can be the everyday leadoff hitter and center fielder.

People were pining for Duran to be called up to the Majors back in 2021. I was one of those people that was foaming at the mouth to have this guy in center field, over the likes of a Jackie Bradley.
Do I think Jarren Duran has what it takes to have a breakout 2023? Yes.
Will it actually happen? I have no idea. Maybe a reset, better approach at the plate, and relaxed mindset could help.
