Boston Bruins torch Flames in OT: Ullmark, McAvoy stars in victory
By Zachary McMahon
The Boston Bruins won in Overtime against the Calgary Flames 4-3 on Tuesday Night. The Bruins now have an eight game winning streak and has now swept the four-game Northwest road trip.
The Flames have a three-game losing streak after losing to the Vegas Golden Nights in overtime and the Colorado Avalanche. The Flames are five points behind the Jets and the Kraken for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
In this game, the goaltender matchup was Linus Ullmark and Daniel Vladar (sound familiar!!!). Shall I say, the performance from Ullmark was legendary (more on that later).
Nick Foligno didn’t return to the game after suffering a lower-body injury in the 2nd period when he got a heavy hit from Nikita Zadorov.
Dmitry Orlov scored his first two goals as a Bruin in this game, and it was his 5th 2-goal game in his career. He also picked up an assist on the Pavel Zacha power play that tied the game up at 3 in the Third Period.
Boston Bruins player of the game: Linus Ullmark
Linus Ullmark had 54 saves on a whooping 57 shots from the Flames in this game. Ullmark’s 57 saves are the most saves in a single game in Bruins history, which the legendary Tim Thomas had that record for 16 years when he had 51 saves in the overtime loss against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 1, 2007.
Ullmark has been setting new records recently as he also scored the first goalie goal against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Here’s what Ullmark had to deal with all game…
He’ll likely get a break for the game against the Buffalo Sabres (his former team) on Thursday and Jeremy Swayman will take over, like he did in the win against the Edmonton Oilers.
Boston Bruins Play of the game: Charlie McAvoy Overtime Goal
Charlie McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with 4 seconds left in Overtime to carry the Bruins to victory over the Calgary Flames.
Check out this thing of beauty…
This is McAvoy’s 5th Overtime goal of his career, almost one every year. The last time he scored an overtime goal was in the win against the St. Louis Blues on April 19, 2022.
This is only McAvoy’s 5th goal of the season, as he’s more defensive body at the forward position.
The Bruins will return to TD Garden for a four-game homestand against the Sabres, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings.
