There’s been a lot of talk about just how bad the Boston Red Sox outfield could be in the 2023 season.

Especially defensively, with the combination of Masataka Yoshida, Adam Duvall, and Alex Verdugo starting; it looks like it could potentially head for a straight disaster.

But one name that nobody is talking about is Rob Refsnyder.

Refsnyder was a calm presence for the Red Sox in 2022. He’s back on a one year deal in 2023. So what could this mean for this specific Red Sox team?

Well, I don’t want to get fans too high up for this season. But it seems like the Red Sox could benefit from Rob Refsnyder having a huge season.

The thing is: I think he can do it!

Look, the Red Sox offense needs just about everything they can get this season. Especially with the departures of guys like J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts gone from this lineup! But maybe Rob Refsnyder can be a piece to the puzzle.

Read that last part of the sentence again: a piece to the puzzle. He’s not going to come in and hit a bunch of homeruns. He only had six last season, so that proves that point.

But the 6-foot outfielder did hit for a .307 average last season and had an .881 OPS. Not bad at all!

Plus, this was all done with only 57 games played! Imagine what numbers Refsnyder could pull off if he got more of an everyday opportunity!

There are a lot of question marks with this outfield that people are really curious about.

How will Yoshida handle his first season playing in the MLB?

Will Adam Duvall hit for any power and be able to play center field on a daily basis?

Can Alex Verdugo take a jump that a lot of people are expecting out of him?

Plus, what happens if there’s an injury early in the season? That’s where Refsnyder comes into play.

He’s reliable in the outfield and can hit for average. Not to mention the fact that he can work counts really well too! So it’s good that the Red Sox have such a dependable fourth outfielder.

The bottom line with the Boston Red Sox and Rob Refsnyder

A good, solid year from your fourth outfielder would be a great sign of things to come.

Red Sox need to turn back to this winning formula. dark. Next

If you can get another .300 plus type of season from Refsnyder at the plate, that’s a win for the Red Sox. They need all of the good hitters and OBP guys that they can get at this point.

A lot of things need to click for this 2023 Boston Red Sox baseball team to be successful. Getting a really good season from Refsnyder could be one of the keys to making a surprising run that nobody saw coming.
