Garnet Hathaway seals Boston Bruins comeback win vs Red Wings

The Boston Bruins won 3-2 against the Detroit Red Wings in the first game of a home-and-away series on Saturday Afternoon. In the last game, the Bruins choked against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
The Red Wings won 4-3 on Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. As of 4 pm on Saturday, the Red Wings are seven points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Bruins won their first game against the Red Wings 5-1 on October 27, when the Bruins scored three power play goals, including 2 from Brad Marchand.
This was the first time the Bruins have faced the Detroit Red Wings since the Tyler Bertuzzi trade on March 2.
With this win the Bruins have their 50th win of the season, which is the fastest pace to 50 wins in NHL History.
The Bruins can clinch a playoff berth tonight if the Islanders lose to the Washington Capitals in any fashion or the Ottawa Senators lose to the Vancouver Canucks in regulation.
The Boston Bruins were able to tie the game in the 2nd period by shooting
The Bruins entered the 2nd period down 2-0 to the Red Wings when they allowed a Power Play and a Shorthanded goal in the 1st period.
The Bruins had a 29-17 shot advantage through the first 40 minutes of the games, but started slow as they had a deficit to the Red Wings 12-5 at one point in the first period.
Two of the shots in the second period resulted in goals within 88 seconds apart for the Bruins which tied the game at 2. The first goal was a Hampus Lindholm slapshot and then a Patrice Bergeron power play goal after missing on three previous chances in the game.
Before the period, the Bruins had allowed five goals in a row stemming from the 3-2 loss against the Oilers on Thursday, but in this game were able to turn things around in a dime.

Bruins forward Garnet Hathaway scored his first goal as a Bruin in the third period with about six minutes left in the third period off a rebound from a shot from A.J. Greer.
Hathaway came over to Boston in the Orlov trade and has been decent from the time that he’s been a Bruin as he’s also had two assists since joining the team.
This was Hathaway’s 10th goal of the season and his first since he scored for the Capitals when the Bruins lost to Washington on February 11.
The Boston Bruins will travel over to Detroit to play the 2nd half of the home-and-away series tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM on TNT. This will start a five-game road trip which involves the Blackhawks, Jets, Wild, and Sabres before they head back to TD Garden for a three-game homestand.
