Sometimes the world is trying to tell you something. If you’re a New England Patriots fan, the world is trying to tell you that you need a number one receiver to complete your already terrific off-season.

You’ve added the likes of Juju Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki, and James Robinson. Sure, Damien Harris, Jakobi Meyers, and Jonnu Smith are gone.

But when you look at the system and the types of players in said system, then you could say the Patriots upgraded.

They’ve been in talks for months about potentially acquiring Cardinals wide receiver Deandre Hopkins. There were reports that the Patriots would be out on Hopkins if it meant pulling off a big trade. But what about if the Cardinals were to release Deandre Hopkins?

There’s something out there saying that the Cardinals could outright release the talented wide receiver. So if this is the case, the Patriots should definitely be all over bringing Deandre Hopkins to Foxborough.

New England Patriots having the financial ability to sign Deandre Hopkins

As it stands right now, the Patriots have a little bit over $12 million in cap space. Although it doesn’t seem like a lot, especially with having to pay draft picks after April’s NFL Draft, they can make more room.

A logical name that could be cut to make more room is offensive tackle Trent Brown. Cutting Brown can open up close to $7 million in cap space, raising the overall cap to close to $20 million.

With Hopkins, he wouldn’t require a huge contract to get here. Particularly during his last few years of a new contract as his age continues to rise.

Teams like the Chiefs, who may have interest also in the star receiver, would not have the room to bring in the 6’1 receiver unless he agreed to take a massive pay-cut. Something tells me that isn’t happening!

Patriots finally getting their primary receiver in Hopkins

If the Patriots brought in Deandre Hopkins, it would take care of their total wide receiver room. The talent in that room would have a significant upgrade from 2022.

Going into a 2023 season with Hopkins, Smith-Schuster, Bourne, Devante Parker, and Tyquan Thornton would give the organization and its fans a lot of hope.

A lot of speed and ability to create separation will be key for Mac Jones and the 2023 offense. So adding a five time Pro-Bowl receiver to the mix would only add to that element of the offense. Hopkins makes the other receivers around him better because he’ll draw the attention of the best corners, which allows for more opportunities for the other receivers. Win-win.

The bottom line with the New England Patriots and Deandre Hopkins

Go get the player, plain and simple. You could use a legitimate number one receiving threat. Why not get one of the best in the game right now?

Next. Line protection for Mac Jones focus of NFL Draft. dark

If you don’t have to give up the picks, then make the move. It upgrades your offense and the financial capability is clearly there.

For the love of everything good Bill, make the move and give fans more of a reason to be excited for the 2023 season!
