It was a roller coaster of emotions Sunday afternoon as the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers.

Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford dominated on the mound while Triston Casas was the star at the plate.  Both reasons of excitement throughout Red Sox Nation.  The downside was the injury suffered by Adam Duvall who has been knocking the cover off the ball.

While X-rays results await his fate, the Sox as a team has to feel good after the sweep suffered at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  To bounce back (even if it was against the Tigers) is a good sign for a team that looks like they will battle.  It was also a good sign to see Casas leading the offense by going 2-for-4 with a homer and RBI double.

It was enough offense to secure victory at Comerica Park and another glimpse of what this young stud can do at the plate.  With Duvall potentially out of the lineup either day-to-day or a longer period of time, the pressure will be on a slugger like Casas to pick up some of the slack which he did on Sunday afternoon.

Boston Red Sox slugger Triston Casas shines in 4-1 victory over Tigers

In delivering two of his big hits against lefty pitchers, the left-handed-hitting Casas showed more good signs of the offensive force he can be once he puts it all together, which includes hitting for more average.

Check out this mammoth ninth inning homer that sealed the deal for the Sox:

While that homer showed off the raw power, the RBI double earlier in the game showed how crafty of a hitter he is and how he can use his power to go the other way against lefties.

"“He hit a foul ball the other way, he fought off pitches in a 3-2 count, I think it was, against [Matt] Boyd,” Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.  “He’s a good lefty.  Different angle, good ride, pitched inside against lefties.  That’s what I meant.  He can hit lefties and righties, he did a good job in Spring Training with them and I thought today he put two good swings and gave us a chance to win.”"

Just hitting .185 on the season Casas isn’t off to the best start as far as getting on base, but the hits he does have has been loud.   Four of his five hits (two coming on Sunday) have been either a homer or a double which means he’s hitting the ball hard once he makes contact.

"“As much as I want to say I don’t have a difference in my numbers, they don’t lie,” Casas said following the game.  “it felt good to hit a couple balls hard.  I don’t really chance my approach, righty vs. lefty, I just try to see a good pitch, hit it.”"

There is no doubt about the power of the Boston Red Sox rookie, the consistency at the plate  will make him a scary hitter in the league, especially his ability to lefties.
