The New England Patriots are trying to do everything in their power to get back to the NFL playoffs in 2023.

With the additions of guys like Juju Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki and James Robinson; they’re doing what they can to improve an anemic 2022 offense. Not to mention actually having a legitimate offensive coordinator in Bill O’Brien now!

There’s also the NFL Draft that is starting next Thursday. We have people throwing in their mock drafts, people deciding what the Patriots should do at receiver. A lot is happening.

But what isn’t being talked about enough is just how hard the Patriots schedule is for 2023. Seriously, it’s pretty brutal! Some are even saying they might have the toughest schedule going into next season.

Let’s take a look at it a little bit more in depth!

New England Patriots dealing with a tough AFC East in 2023

The first thing that goes against the Patriots in 2023 is their own division: the AFC East.

Look, we all know just how competitive that division has been over the past few seasons. It looks like it’ll be even more competitive come September 2023!

The Bills are the Bills. They are still hungry for a Super Bowl and have one of the most talented teams in the NFL.

The Dolphins have shown they’re serious about competing, with big trades and signings happening left and right.

The Jets have had some good draft classes and look to potentially be on the cusp of landing Aaron Rodgers to be their quarterback. If/when that happens, the division becomes that much tougher.

You need to go at least 3-3 to have a chance at a good season. There’s no more cupcake wins in the AFC East anymore, so that certainly doesn’t help the Patriots.

New England Patriots dealing with the AFC West and NFC East in 2023

Besides the AFC East, the Patriots will have to play the AFC West and NFC East in 2023.

This means the Patriots have to play the Super Bowl champion Chiefs, a Chargers team that continues to improve year after year, a Broncos team on a mission to prove 2022 was a fluke, and a Raiders team going through some changes. That’s just in the AFC West!

The NFC East has the Patriots playing the Eagles who just made the Super Bowl, the Cowboys who are a playoff team, the Giants who resurged in 2022, and the Commanders who are respectable within the division.

With these two divisions, there aren’t a lot of easy games for this Patriots team.

The bottom line with the New England Patriots 2023 schedule

This is not what you want to see as a Patriots fan hoping to see this team back in the playoffs.

dark. Next. What is the Patriots' trump card entering draft?

Besides the teams mentioned above, the Patriots also have to play the Steelers, Colts, and Saints. So the schedule doesn’t do them any favors.

But we’ll see what happens. The games have to be played on the field. This Patriots team has improved on offense and their special teams. Now it’s a question of: can they put it all together?

Buckle up Patriots fans. We’re in for a lot of potential dog fights come September.
