Celtics News: Brad Stevens deal for Malcolm Brogdon was a slam dunk
The Boston Celtics continue to reap the benefits of a tremendous regular season. Right now, they are currently up two games to none over the Atlanta Hawks with game three in Atlanta on Friday night.
While the Celtics were busy traveling to Atlanta and getting ready for game three, they were bringing in some more hardware in the process.
Malcolm Brogdon has been a terrific addition for a Boston team looking to get over the hump this season. Thursday night, he was rewarded for his astounding regular season by winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.
Brogdon is the first Celtics player since Bill Walton and the third overall C’s player to win the award.
Boston Celtics winning the Malcolm Brogdon trade
Looking back on it, Boston really got the better of the Pacers in that summer trade.
Yes, the Celtics only got one player in Malcolm Brogdon. But look at the value you got for him! He could realistically be starting on this Celtics team, if they really wanted to make that move.
Also, look at what you gave away for the Sixth Man of the Year.
Daniel Theis? He was a guy that got into early foul trouble more often than not! Aaron Nesmith? He never really developed into the shooter that the Celtics were hoping for when they drafted him. Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, and Juwan Morgan? Bench guys who weren’t a part of the long-term plans.
The 2023 first round pick is really the only valuable piece that you could argue could hurt the C’s in the future. But if it brings them a championship? The Celtics will gladly take that trade-off in a hurry.

Watching Celtics games closely, it’s impressive to watch Brogdon come off the bench and put up the numbers that he’s put up this season.
Brogdon is a good three-point shooter, shooting his highest percentage of his NBA career this season at 44.4 percent. He’s also a really good mid-range shooter and can finish around the rim in a multitude of ways.
When you have a guy come off your bench that can give you 15 points a game, it’s a steady and calming feeling knowing the defending Eastern Conference champs don’t have to rely on only their starters to score.
The bottom line with the Boston Celtics and Malcolm Brogdon
A huge congratulations is in order for the former Virginia point guard. He certainly earned it with his steady play throughout the regular season.
As nice as the award is, it’s not the one that all fans really want. Everyone knows the Celtics and their fans want the NBA championship trophy. It’s right within reach and certainly attainable.
So again, congrats to “The President” on a great first season with the C’s. But it’s time to go finish off the Hawks in these next two games and get to the second round ASAP.
