3 Things the Celtics Should Ask Santa for on Their Christmas List
Wish 2: Veteran Big
Truly feel like I might be nitpicking, but one aspect I would like to see Brad Stevens add at the deadline is another veteran big. With Porzingis constantly battling injuries and an aging Al Horford, getting another big man would be a great addition for the Boston Celtics.
Certainly, Horford still has something to give, but throwing him out there for 20-plus minutes is not ideal.
So, go for another big. Someone like Kevin Love I think would be a great fit. They may not play every night, but when you know you can count on them to pick it up when need be.
While Love may not be what he once was, he is still sharp between the ears. The NBA Champion is averaging a career-low 6.4 points a game but only averages 11. 8 min a night.
Not to make this all about Kevin Love, but someone of his stature. Someone who can get out there for 10-ish minutes a night with tons of playoff experience. Jonas Valančiūnas from the Washington Wizards could be another option but has two more years on his contract after 2025.
With many veteran bigs on the market, the Celtics should have a fair share of cost-effective options. Since to me, this would be the one true need come deadline day.
It will truly depend on how much Stevens would like to give up. The Celtics are clearly in win-now mode, but there is also the balance of not trying to tinker.
