3 Things the Red Sox Should Ask Santa for on Their Christmas List
Spiderman action figure. A new watch. A pair of news shoes. We all want something.
Christmas season is upon, which means it’s time to write that letter to Santa Claus. Writing down all our wants and needs all for ourselves.
One of the many great traditions of the holiday season, that famed letter to Santa is a key December tradition.
Along with the classics of putting up a tree, unwrapping presents, and spending time with family. We all embrace our unique traditions, but there are some that all abide by.
Whether you're old or young, live out west or down in Florida, we all are hoping for something on Christmas. Sports is no different and each of the four Boston franchises all are seeking something new.
So, what’s on the Boston Red Sox wish list?
Wish 1: Change the Perception of the Team
After missing out on Juan Soto, fan optimism took a downward spiral. Crossing their fingers that they could land the most coveted free agent in 2024, but instead, he went to the Mets.
Instead, Craig Breslow shifted to the trade market to land an ace. Garrett Crochet. While this was a blockbuster move, fans are still satisfied.
Craving for more from a team that has not made the postseason since 2021. For a big market team and one as historic as Boston, this is unacceptable.
Boston is an attractive market for big stars, but the Red Sox's unwillingness to spend has left fans in disarray. Many are even calling for John Henry to even sell the team.
Whether that does or not does happen, which seems unlikely since his company is called Fenway Sports Group, the perception of the team is very much negative.
Outraged with a playoff drought and the continuous offseason of minor moves. Certainly landing Crochet is a big one. The Red Sox gave up four big prospects, headlined by catcher Kyle Teel, but it still does not answer the question of whether will they spend big money.
Last year, the Red Sox finished 11th in total payroll according to Spotrac. Which is actually an improvement from the year prior at 13. The two years prior to that, 6th.
Fans are left in anger as missing the playoffs continues to be the same result, but ownership does not seem to care enough to fix it.
Landing Crochet created some buzz, but time will tell if this will be the only major move the Red Sox make this winter.
A team that continuously ranks toward the top in most expensive MLB tickets, the Red Sox must continue to add more talent or there could be a lot of empty seats in Fenway this year.
