Wish 2: Fight for the Postseason

Similar to the first wish, the Red Sox need buzz! The love and support for the Red Sox will always be there, but they need a reason to get excited.

Some may argue they need to make the postseason this year, which may be true, but the season can’t end in August. The Red Sox, especially after Crochet and a healthy Trevor Story, should absolutely be fighting for a berth in the playoffs.

Especially now with the expanded playoff system, Boston should be in contention. A year after their arch-rival made it all the way to the World Series, the Red Sox need their own buzz.

Rather just rooting for their rival to lose, fans want success of their own.

After an ALCS return in 2021, which truthfully nobody really expected, the BoSox have done nothing since to generate buzz. Making minor moves in free agency or via trade, but nothing to move the needle.

Crochet certainly awoke the hibernating fans, but a team fighting for contention in September would do the trick. Keeping fans interested all throughout the summer and into the fall season.

Demanding a deep run or another banner is a bit extreme, but asking for a Wild Card birth is a reasonable expectation for Bostonians. With manager Alex Cora still in the fold, they have a manager with a ring who knows how to win in October.

As we have seen countless times like in 2021, any team that makes the postseason has a real shot at the Fall Baseball Classic.

So, a wish that would take many months to achieve, the Red Sox need to make a competitive push to return to playoff baseball this year.
