Wish 3: Pitching

The Red Sox to me should have the longest Christmas letter to Santa because they have a lot of needs. Even after landing their new ace, Boston still lacks pitching depth.

In both the bullpen and starting rotation, the Red Sox need to get stronger. The ole saying you can never have enough good pitchers is true, but Boston needs a lot of it.

Whether they elect to name 36-year-old Aroldis Chapman as their closer or look elsewhere, Craig Breslow still has work to do.

Relating to the first wish, quality arms are certainly still available in free agency, but the question still remains if the Red Sox will pay up.

The biggest name still on the market is, of course, Corbin Burnes. Rumored to be heading out west to San Francisco, Burnes would create a dynamic 1-2 punch for Boston and land them that big fish fans are wanting.

Or Breslow could follow the recent Boston trend and go for more quantity than quality. Getting decent, but not that big second arm to pair with Crochet or that lock-up closer.

Free agency is slowly progressing and there are still many arms available in the pool. So, time will of course tell, but adding more pitchers has to be atop Breslow’s priority this summer.

Since Boston does not boast a high-powered offense like the Dodgers, pitching is going to be vital to the success of this team. So, if Breslow can land another quality arm for the rotation and a few extra arms for the bullpen, Boston could make a strong push for the Wild Card spot.

Truthfully, it was really hard to narrow this list to only three as Boston has a lot of needs, but these three to me have to be the focus.

As much as the jolly man in the red suit is a miracle worker, I am not even sure if we could fix the Red Sox in one offseason.
