5 Former Red Sox Still Playing in World Series While Boston Sits at Home
3. Kiké Hernández
Many fans of course will remember his incredible 2021 postseason. Most notably, the walk-off RBI to send the Red Sox into the championship series in Game Four against Tampa Bay. Departing Boston in 2023 via trade, Hernández is once again proving to be a dangerous weapon in October. A truly different player come October time, Hernández has 10 hits on 33 at-bats, including two homers.
So, what did Chaim Bloom pull off in this trade? The team acquired Nick Roberton and Justin Hagenman. Robertson was then dealt as part of a trade to the St. Louis Cardinals for Tyler O’Neill and Hagenman is pitching in Worcester. Going 4-6 with an ERA of 4.91.
4. Ryan Brasier
A good bullpen arm, Brasier won a ring with Boston in 2018. Staying until 2023, the reliever wound his way to the West Coast after being designated for assignment from the Red Sox. Beginning the 2023 campaign, Brasier in his first 20 outings allowed 7.29 earned runs. So, John Henry’s club certainly does not deserve a ton of criticism for this move, but just adds to the list of the total of productive players the Red Sox got rid of.
5. Michael Kopech
Some casual Red Sox fans and especially baseball fans may not even know who this guy is. Since he never played in Fenway Park for the Red Sox but was simply a prospect that got traded to the Chicago White Sox. For who? Chris Sale.
Which of course proved to be a home run trade by Dave Dombrowski, Kopech wound up in LAD in July before the trade deadline. This postseason, the reliever is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and seven K’s.
