Another Patriots Legend Fired From Coaching Job on Friday

It is that time of the year when all the disappointing teams make significant changes to their coaching staff. Sometimes, it's the head coach that gets the boot, like Jerod Mayo and sometimes, it's the supporting coaches. One Patriots legend's time as an assistant coach came to an end on Friday.
Wes Welker, who has been the wide receivers coach for the Miami Dolphins for the past three seasons, was let go, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
NFL News: Dolphins Fire WR Coach Wes Welker
Welker was hired as the wide receivers coach in 2022 when Mike McDaniel was hired as the head coach in Miami. The two had worked together in San Francisco when McDaniel was the offensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan.
The first two seasons in Miami went great for Welker. The team had one of the most dynamic offenses in the league behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle's heroics. Hill put together one of the most impressive seasons ever for a wide receiver in 2023, putting up 119 catches for 1,799 yards, and 13 touchdowns, and the Dolphins had the second-best offense in the league.
This season, however, the Dolphins attack took a significant step back. They finished as the 22nd-best offense in the NFL and finished with a losing record for the first time since 2019.
McDaniel and offensive coordinator Frank Smith are currently holding onto their jobs but the Dolphins management thought it was time to make a change elsewhere.
Welker is a Patriots legend and is one of the best wide receivers in franchise history, having made five straight Pro Bowls in New England, and leading the league in receptions three times as a Patriot. Whoever takes over as the head coach in Foxborough, Welker would be a good option on the coaching staff now that he has a couple of years of experience under great NFL coaches.
