Bill Belichick Has Officially Turned on Jerod Mayo After Patriots Player Comments
By Cem Yolbulan
The New England Patriots suffered their sixth straight loss to fall to 1-6 for the season after a deflating performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. The four out of their last five defeats have been massive blowouts in which the Patriots looked completely overmatched.
What drew even more attention than the disastrous performance on the field was head coach Jerod Mayo's post-game remarks. Mayo accused his team of being "soft" across the board. Pointing fingers at his team's ability to run the ball, "being able to stop the run, and being able to cover the kicks", Mayo put most of the blame on his players rather than himself.
This angered Bill Belichick. In his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the former Patriots head coach eviscerated Mayo and the coaching staff for blaming the players.
Patriots News: Bill Belichick Goes Off on Jerod Mayo
Belichick said that the team is a lot of the same players from 2023 when the defense was a much more respectable unit. He pointed out the fact that the Patriots' defense led the league in yards per carry. As a whole, New England allowed the seventh-most yards and 15th-most points in the league. The offense was similarly awful but the Pats under Belichick were significantly more competitive in games thanks to their defense.
"It's a lot of the same players from last year. I'm kinda hurt for those guys because to call them soft, they are not soft. They were the best team in the league last year against the run. I feel bad for the defensive players on that one."

Obviously, Belichick is not entirely blameless here. He played a huge part in the construction of this roster. Yet, two things can be true at the same time. Mayo is doing an absolutely horrendous job leading this poorly constructed team Belichick left him.
