The Boston Celtics are going to be an interesting team to follow in the month of June. Shams Charania has mentioned that the Celtics are primarily focused on trading Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Sam Hauser. Not only should fans keep an eye out for any trades, but the Celtics currently hold the 28th pick in Round 1 and the 32nd pick in Round 2 of the 2025 NBA draft. Something that could excite fans is that the perfect offseason target seems available, potentially using these draft picks.

Utah Jazz Reportedly Open to Moving Walker Kessler

In a new report by Utah Jazz insider Sarah Todd, she mentions that the Jazz could have "conversations to include Walker Kessler (who is extension eligible) and Lauri Markkanen." If Walker Kessler is available, the Celtics should look to trade for him as he'd be an incredible addition to the big man rotation.

Kessler has played three years with the Utah Jazz since his selection 22nd overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. During his tenure, he's averaged 9.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. This past year, he set career highs in points and rebounds at 11.1 points and 12.2 rebounds. Before entering the NBA, Kessler played at Auburn.

While Kessler would be the perfect target for the Celtics, the path to get him would be challenging. Due to Kessler still being on his rookie contract, the Celtics only have a select few players who would be feasible to trade to Utah. On top of the cap issues, they'd have to add draft capital and be prepared to extend Kessler after this upcoming season. Finally, being a young and good defender, Kessler will have multiple suitors, and the Celtics could get outbid by more appealing trade offers.

While Kessler would be the perfect addition to the roster given his strengths, it could be a challenge to acquire him from Utah. Even if it's tough, the Celtics should look to trade for him, as you'd have your starting center of the future locked down. You never know what could happen: maybe old friends Danny and Austin Ainge help you out.
