Celtics Reportedly Interested in Reunion With Veteran Scorer

The Boston Celtics are 25-9 for the season, and despite being 4.5 games behind the Eastern Conference leaders, the Cleveland Cavaliers, they are the overwhelming favorites to win the NBA championship. They have the championship pedigree, experience, and more talent than any team in the league.
Yet, general manager Brad Stevens isn't leaving any stone unturned to improve the roster for the title defense. NBA insider Marc Stein recently reported that the Celtics are interested in signing Lonnie Walker IV before February 18.
NBA Rumors: Celtics Eyeing Lonnie Walker IV Reunion
Walker spent the training camp and preseason with the Celtics and impressed in his stint. He was surprisingly not signed to the 15-man roster and chose to sign with Zalgiris Kaunas of the Euroleague. He has been playing at a high level there but has a buyout clause in his contract that allows him to sign with an NBA team midseason.
The Celtics are reportedly facing competition from Philadelphia, Minnesota, Miami, and Denver for Walker's services. Boston presumably has the least playing time to offer the 26-year-old shooting guard but offers the best chance at winning a championship.
Boston has an open roster spot as Stevens chose to bring 14 players into the season. The Celtics may not sign another player to save some tax money as they are already one of the most expensive teams of all time. If they do decide to bring a 15th player, however, Walker is as good of an option as any. He can shoot, get to the rim, and make athletic plays while not being a net negative on the defensive end.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla likes to go deep into his bench throughout the regular season. He has given Drew Peterson, Jordan Walsh, and Jaden Springer opportunities to show what they are capable of. If signed, Walker would get the same chance to make his case to be in the playoff rotation.
