The New England Patriots addressed most of their roster needs in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, even the best things can be improved, and this team just knocked on the door of another Vince Lombardi Trophy, leaving no reason to rest on their laurels now.

Considering that, it wouldn't hurt to provide Drake Maye with another weapon. With David Njoku still up for grabs on the free agent market, Eliot Wolf and Mike Vrabel should get the former Cleveland Browns star on the phone.

David Njoku is a Perfect Fit for the New England Patriots

Njoku may have misread his market. He tipped his hand way too soon when he announced he was leaving the Cleveland Browns, and there haven't been any takers yet. As such, the Patriots might be able to get him for far less than his projected annual market value of $10 million.

Even though he's coming off an injury-riddled season and there hasn't been that much interest in his services, he fits what the Patriots do and need. He's a reliable pass-catching option and a perennial mismatch in the end zone, not to mention a solid complement next to the aging Hunter Henry, who will enter the final year of his contract.

Njoku can give the Patriots a solid one-two punch at tight end, helping Henry stay healthy by lowering his workload in his age-32 season. New England also took Eli Raridon on Day 2 of the draft, but he's still a work in progress, boasting just 48 career catches.

Adding Njoku on a one or two-year deal should help the Patriots develop their rookie without much pressure, all while giving Maye another reliable pair of hands. Conversely, he'd finally have an opportunity to play meaningful games, arguably for the first time in his career.

The Patriots will most likely add more juice to their wide receiver room by trading for Philadelphia Eagles star WR A.J. Brown after June 1. As such, they might not be in a hurry to spend big bucks to add another veteran in the passing game.

That said, Njoku is much more than a downfield weapon. He's also a willing blocker who bullies his way to the second level and pushes linebackers out of the way like traffic cones. That should also help open plenty of running lanes for TreVeyon Henderson. There's little to no downside to giving him a call, especially if the price makes sense.
