The New England Patriots offense showed out in joint practice against the Colts this week. The unit as a whole looked more explosive than ever, and Drake Maye was in his bag as usual. There is also plenty of footage from receiver and defensive back one-on-one sessions, and the Patriots receivers looked unguardable. A.J. Brown made Sauce Gardner fall to the ground, and DeMario Douglas was the shiftiest player on the field.
We are starting to see Maye finally get a true arsenal of weapons, and it should have fans over the moon. With that being said, let’s dive into some of the specifics of the most recent joint practice.
Drake Maye is in his bag
The MVP runner-up has been showing off the cannon in joint practices. It’s clear he’s ready for another massive leap in 2026.
With the additions of Brown and Romeo Doubs, Maye could go nuclear. The Patriots signal-caller connected with his new receivers on multiple 11-on-11 periods against Indianapolis, and the thoughts around the league are that Maye could be unstoppable as he prepares for his second year in the Josh McDaniels offense.
The red zone offense is a different beast
The Patriots struggled in the red zone last season, but that looks to be a worry of the past. The offense looks to be going full throttle in the red zone, and with good reason; the arsenal of weapons they now have will be the best group Maye has played with up to this point in his career.
There has also been an emerging star from the rookie class in tight end Eli Raridon. The Notre Dame star just continues to get open and show off his athleticism. He will be a huge weapon behind Hunter Henry, who recently signed an extension with the team, and could develop into one of the best weapons in the offensive rotation.
Two words: DeMario Douglas
DeMario “Pop” Douglas continued his dominant summer against the Colts.
There were multiple clips of Douglas making acrobatic catches and leaving defenders in the dust. Pop is arguably the shiftiest player on the team and is making a case to be the starting slot receiver in 2026. The Patriots are in great shape at the slot position; they have a big, strong slot in Doubs and a shifty speedster in Pop Douglas.
Overall, keep an eye on Douglas being one of the most electric players in the offense this season, and get ready for his best season yet.
