NFL training camp season is a two-sided coin for players across the league. On one hand, training camp practices offer a chance for players to step up, prove their worth, and lock down a 53-man roster spot. On the other hand, any struggles during workouts can and will be used against any underperformers, potentially resulting in them losing their job.

New England Patriots fans have eagerly been following this year's training camp as head coach Mike Vrabel shapes the roster in his image. Conversely, a portion of the New England fanbase is tracking the franchise's former players, which is why they'll want to know the latest details surrounding an ex-Pats wideout.

Former Patriots WR Matt Landers Signs with Titans During Training Camp

KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson is reporting that the Tennessee Titans have signed former Patriots playmaker Matt Landers to an NFL contract. The former undrafted WR will be replacing ex-UT Martin wideout Colton Dowell, who was released by the Titans after they drafted him 228th overall in 2023.

If any Patriots fans forgot about Landers' time with the franchise, that's because it wasn't all that memorable. The former Arkansas product was claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 20, 2024, and was re-signed to the practice squad a week later. Things didn't improve beyond that, though, as he stayed on the practice squad until he was waived on Oct. 8.

Including his stints with the UFL's Arlington Renegades and San Antonio Brahmas, Landers has now been a part of six franchises to begin his professional football career. That's why it's fairly surprising that the Titans want to roll the dice on him after he failed to prove he belonged in a half-dozen destinations.

In his first and only season with the Razorbacks, Landers hauled in 47 receptions for 901 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. Although he's yet to prove he can be the same player at the NFL level, the Titans' relatively weak WR room is likely his best opportunity to succeed.

If he fumbles his new chance and plays himself out of 53-man roster contention, the former Patriots WR might be on the hunt for another new contract sooner rather than later.
