With the calendar flipping to July, several teams around the majors are looking forward to the All-Star break and the MLB trade deadline.

The Boston Red Sox are one of those teams, as the first half of the season has been a mixed bag of results. Despite their inconsistent play at various points, the Red Sox are three games out of the final wild card spot in the American League.

At the same time, these next few weeks will determine if Boston will be sellers or buyers at the deadline.

Speaking of the trade deadline, one former Red Sox pitcher doesn’t have to worry about being moved later this month, as his most recent team did the honors for him.

Ex-Red Sox Reliever Sent Packing by Arizona Diamondbacks

Last weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that right-handed pitcher Tayler Scott has been designated for assignment.

The former Red Sox hurler appeared in six games out of the bullpen with the D-backs, where he posted a 9.00 ERA. Scott gave up 13 hits, nine earned runs (three home runs), and four walks, while only recording seven strikeouts in nine innings pitched.

The 33-year-old pitcher signed with Arizona on a minor league deal at the end of May after the Houston Astros designated him for assignment on May 14. Scott struggled with the Astros, as he had a 5.40 ERA across 17 starts.

This was a stark difference from what the ex-Red Sox pitcher did in 2024 in Houston, where he posted a stellar 2.23 ERA (62 appearances).

Before arriving in Houston in 2024, Scott spent time with three different teams in 2023, including the Red Sox. Scott’s stint with the Red Sox wasn’t spectacular. He had a 4.91 ERA across four appearances (one start).

The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits, four walks, three runs (two earned), a home run, while picking up two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Scott also made two appearances at Triple-A Worcester during the 2023 season.
