Former Red Sox Top Prospect Could Grab the Last Rotation Spot in September

Kyle Harrison is doing amazing in AAA Worcester, and he can sub in for Walker Buehler as the last starter in the rotation.

The Boston Red Sox are looking for ways to bolster their team from within. It's around that time that they'd be doing so, now that the trade deadline has come and gone. Now, it's putting things on the wall and hoping things stick. With Walker Buehler not improving this season (and nobody wanting to take on his contract at the deadline), Cora doesn't believe that Buehler will make his next start on Monday.

Now, the Red Sox are trying to figure out who exactly can take up his spot. Payton Tolle, David Sandlin, and Connelly Early are all possible candidates, but there's one person who's standing out among all of them right now.

Kyle Harrison Could Be an Option for Red Sox in the Final Stretch of the Season

Kyle Harrison is one of these men whom the Red Sox haven't given up on. Acquired as a piece in the Rafael Devers trade, he was sent to AAA Worcester to see what he had. He was immediately struggling in his first three starts, giving up 11 earned runs in 13 innings, with an ERA of 7.62. Many believed that Harrison was becoming a bust in our very eyes.

However...

A new grip and a new pitch later, Harrison has been outstanding in AAA. He's adapted to a circle-change grip and added a cutter to his arsenal. Since July 13th, he's posted a 2.22 ERA with 36 strikeouts and only eight earned runs given up in his last seven starts. In August, specifically, he's gone 5 full innings in all four of his appearances so far.

With Buehler not being able to be his former self, and the September call-ups just over a week away, the Red Sox have already been making moves. Recently, they sent Isaiah Campbell down and brought up Richard Fitts to try him out for the bullpen. Then, they DFA'd Abraham Toro and recalled David Hamilton from AAA. Just yesterday, they called up #3 prospect Jhostynxon "The Password" Garcia to the majors after Wilyer Abreu was put on the 10-day IL due to calf issues.

Many shake-ups so far in just two days. Let's see what happens next. It's going to get interesting.
