Jerod Mayo Provides Positive Christian Barmore Update Ahead of Week 6
By Cem Yolbulan
The New England Patriots season is off to a terrible start for a variety of reasons but how hard they have been hit with injuries is an under-discussed aspect. They lost several key veterans early in the season, leaving them with unproven and unestablished players in multiple positions.
Fortunately for the Patriots, they finally got a positive injury update on one of their best players. Christian Barmore, who was diagnosed with blood clots before the season and placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, is progressing in his recovery. According to Patriots insider Mike Reiss, head coach Jerod Mayo said that there is now a better chance Barmore could play at some point this season.
Patriots News: Christian Barmore Making Progress
This is an excellent sign for the talented defensive tackle. Blood clots are a scary diagnosis that could jeopardize one's playing career for good. The fact that there is a chance Barmore could return to play as soon as this season bodes well for his long-term outlook.
Barmore signed a four-year, $92 million contract extension this spring, making him one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the league and one of the highest-paid Patriots players ever. He was arguably the best defensive player on the team last year and the organization was counting on him to continue his rise in 2024.
The Patriots already placed two team leaders Ja'Whaun Bentley and David Andrews on the Injured Reserve list this season. Having Barmore back will give the team a much-needed jolt both on and off the field.
