The New England Patriots held a community day this past week, and many people noticed something different about receiver Kyle Williams. He looked noticeably larger and had clearly put on some muscle mass.

He said in an interview how he emphasized getting bigger and stronger this offseason, and being able to take a step forward in 2026. Williams was in a very crowded receiver room as a rookie, but after showing some serious flashes of big-play ability, he could be primed for a huge role this season.

So let's dive into what that could look like, and how he currently fits into this offense.

Kyle Williams can take a huge leap this season

Williams had some huge plays as a rookie, but clearly didn't get many opportunities. Now heading into year two, and adding some good muscle mass, we could see him take a massive step forward.

The Maryland native has the shiftiness and separation in his route running to consistently get open, and now that he has a larger frame, he is likely more comfortable in the offensive scheme; he will dominate this season. Not to mention the Patriots added Romeo Doubs in free agency, and are likely trading for A.J. Brown in June, which will open things up for Williams tremendously.

Opposing defenses will be so focused on stopping Brown and Doubs that they will have no choice but to give Williams favorable matchups. And with the tools he has, he will turn into a massive piece of the puzzle for the Patriots.

What will more size and strength do for Williams' game?

The Washington State alum was a shifty speedster coming out of college, and he showed that in 2025 as well. He is very good at getting open and burning his defender downfield. However, he had a more slender frame and needed to add some strength for the NFL level. He did just that this offseason.

By adding some muscle, while not going overboard, he will still be able to keep his shiftiness that makes him so dangerous, all while increasing his play strength. This will be ideal when he is matched up with larger NFL corners that can press him at the line or jump with him at the catch point on downfield targets. Overall, Williams should have a much better season in 2026, and a large part of that will be the work he put in this offseason.

How does Williams fit into this offense?

Williams could be used in many different ways this season. He was used as a downfield threat last year, but now that Brown is potentially on the way to New England, the Patriots could use the 23-year-old all over the formation.

He could be used in the slot where his route running would shine, or even at the Z position, where his newly stronger frame could come into play. Or they could use him as a true gadget player and get him involved in every way possible. The potential is sky high for Williams heading into 2026, and fans should be prepared to see some seriously big plays from him.
