Mike Vrabel Reunites With Former Assistant Coach With Latest Patriots Hire
The New England Patriots coaching staff under new head coach Mike Vrabel is taking shape. Josh McDaniels has been named as the offensive coordinator. Terrell Williams is the defensive coordinator and Jeremy Springer was retained as the special teams coordinator.
On Thursday, they also added Ashton Grant to become as their quarterbacks coach. New England continued to make additions to the coaching staff. According to Ryan Dunleavy of the NY Post, the Patriots have agreed to terms with Zak Kuhr.
Patriots News: Zak Kuhr Added to Patriots Coaching Staff
Kuhr interviewed with New England on Thursday and landed the job on the same day. He spent the 2024 season with the New York Giants as a defensive assistant.
Before going to the Giants, Kuhr was with the Tennessee Titans. From 2020-2023, he held roles as a quality control coach and got elevated to assistant linebackers coach. Prior to crossing paths with Vrabel in Tennessee, the two were together at the Ohio State University.
Kuhr interned with the Buckeyes in 2011-2012. Meanwhile, Vrabel was Ohio State's linebackers coach in 2011.
Vrabel has looked to bring in familiar faces, and Kuhr was the latest addition. He's brought in running backs coach Tony Dews, game management assistant John Streicher, and the aforementioned Williams.
Having familiar faces in the building was something that Vrabel was eager to do. The Pats are seeking to return to the days of being a quality team in this league. They've failed to make the playoffs for three straight seasons but are hoping 2025 is the beginning of a change.
The Pats will still be filling out their coaching staff over the next couple of weeks. Anyone with a history with Vrabel should be looked at as an option. We'll have to see if that was the right approach, but it is certainly the way things are going down in New England.
