It's been a hectic week of news for the New England Patriots. Right after the loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18, the Patriots parted ways with Jerod Mayo after one season.

Mike Vrabel immediately jumped to the top of the list. They were able to land Vrabel on Sunday and officially introduced him as their next head coach on Monday.

The excitement is through the roof getting Vrabel in the building, and he's already making it clear what will be his priority in building this team.

Patriots News: Mike Vrabel Wants To Build Up the Trenches

Vrabel was asked about what upgrades the team needs to make this offseason and he quickly said they need to build up the trenches.

That is music to the ears of Patriot fans. Offensively, they had one of the worst lines in the NFL. They were fifth in the league in sacks allowed (52). That was one of the biggest problems on that team and it needs some serious assets put into it.

Meanwhile, defensively, they were last in the NFL in team sacks (28). No player on the team had more than five sacks.

They need to get more production out of these units. All the top teams in the league can control the line of scrimmage and put their imprint on the game. New England wants to bring that type of mindset and fight over to New England.

During Vrabel's six-year tenure with the Titans, they had the second-most rushing yards in the NFL and gave up the fewest yards per carry during that stretch.

Consistently winning and dominating the man in front of you doesn't always show up in the box score but highlights the kind of team you are.

New England has the fourth overall pick and will head into free agency with around $120 million in cap space. The Pats have the assets to make some real changes so fans should expect an influx of additions to those position groups.
