It's a great time for football fans as the NFL season is almost here. After coming up short in the Super Bowl last season, the New England Patriots will look to build off of it and have another strong season. The biggest question mark for New England's offense this season will be the offensive line.
Last season, the offensive line had its fair share of struggles(especially in the playoffs). After starting both Will Campbell and Jared Wilson as rookies, they should hopefully take another step forward in play with a full offseason to develop (and Wilson playing center, his natural position). Mike Onwenu is also back and should be as steady as he's been during his New England career.
Morgan Moses and free agent signing Alijah Vera-Tucker round out the starting group and are where my worries exist.
Morgan Moses and Alijah Vera-Tucker's health are big offensive concerns
Starting with Moses, he'll be 35 this season, and he's at the end of his career. New England got a healthy season from him last year, but being another year older, the injury risk for Moses only gets bigger.
Should something happen to Moses, we'd be looking at New England's 2026 first-round pick, Caleb Lomu, more than likely getting the start (unless Onwenu were to move to tackle and start someone at his right guard spot). Lomu is an interesting prospect, but I'd prefer for him to get a season learning behind Moses before he starts for the Patriots.
Vera-Tucker is where the bigger concerns exist for me. In his first five seasons, he has only played in 43 games. After playing 16 games as a rookie in 2021, he would go on to play seven games in 2022 with a torn triceps and five in 2023, suffering a Ruptured Achilles (coincidentally, both occurred in games against the Denver Broncos).
He saw an upswing in 2024, playing in 15 games, but his 2025 season was over before it started, suffering his second triceps tear, this time in a practice before his Week 1 game. When healthy, Vera-Tucker has been a good guard in the league; he's just struggled to stay healthy. For all we know, New England could help him stay healthy, and things could work out, but it's tough not to worry seeing his injury history.
An injury to Vera-Tucker should see the Patriots insert Ben Brown into the starting lineup. Patriots fans should be familiar with Brown, who started 10 games in 2024 and four games in 2025, when Jared Wilson missed time. Brown having to take over as a starter wouldn't worry me as much as Lomu potentially becoming a starter.
New England still has a revamped offense
Outside of the offensive line, New England upgraded on the offensive side, most notably trading for star wide receiver A. J. Brown. Trading for Brown gives New England a legit number one receiver that the fans have been waiting for (if only they had drafted Brown in 2019 instead of N'Keal Harry).
Along with Brown, the Patriots added Romeo Doubs to the receiver room and selected Notre Dame tight end Eli Raridon in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft.
On the coaching side, they did have former All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins visit on the first day of practice as a coach. Should New England officially add him to the staff, it could be a boost to the offense.
